The following is an excerpt from the obituary for Tim.
The family announces with great sadness the sudden death of Tim Ross, a.k.a. “Shade”, Director of YMCA Camp Chief Hector. Tim died in a tragic climbing accident on Ben Cruachan in Scotland.
Tim graduated from the University of Calgary in Education but his passion was to mould the future leaders of Canada in the outdoor environment which he so loved. He pursued this through the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre in Kananaskis passing on his love of the environment to Calgary high school students. He worked at Kilcoo Camp in Ontario in a Senior Program role and will always be remembered as one of the most ‘colourful’ guys that have ever come through the gates. He returned to YMCA Camp Chief Hector in Seebe, Alberta where he became the Chief Camper and continued to spread his passion and enthusiasm to the staff and campers.
Tim lived life to the fullest every day by giving so much of himself to others. He enjoyed a great sense of humour and he had a deep compassion for his fellow workers, campers and friends. He willingly gave so much to so many, demanding nothing in return except that one should strive to be all that they could be. Tim was truly one of “the good guys”. He taught us all about how to live, teach and take advantage of every minute and person that came his way. We are all better for knowing Tim and will continue to celebrate his life by living life to the fullest everyday.
